Saxion University Lecturer Session on Optimizing Research Rigor at UNIWIN 2025

January 28, 2025 – On the seventh day of the International Winter University (UNIWIN 2025), Rienk van Marle, a Lecturer in Research Methodology from Saxion University of Applied Sciences’ Hospitality Business School, delivered an insightful guest lecture on the theme: “How to Optimize Rigor in Research in the Context of Problem Solving.”

Van Marle engaged students in a thought-provoking discussion about the essential components of rigorous research, especially in relation to solving real-world problems. Key topics included the critical roles of reliability and validity in defining research rigor, the influence of theory in shaping effective research design, and strategies for determining the appropriate level of rigor throughout a research project.

the session included the following themes: How do reliability and validity help to define rigor? What role does theory play in designing a research project that aims at problem solving? And How to find the right level of rigor in (parts of) the project?

The session, attended by students from various disciplines, provided valuable insights into the key factors that drive effective and impactful research.
