International cooperation – a sustainable pillar of the development of “Haxhi Zeka” University

The period 2023–2025 marks an important phase of consolidation, expansion and deepening of international cooperation. "Haxhi Zeka" University, positioning the university as an active and credible actor in the European and regional higher education space. Through continuous institutional commitment, sustainable partnerships and concrete impactful projects, internationalization has transformed from a formal objective into a daily academic and developmental practice.

The projects implemented during this period, funded mainly by the Erasmus+ program and other international partners, clearly demonstrate the university's orientation towards innovation, entrepreneurship, green and digital transition, as well as the connection of education with the real needs of the labor market. Initiatives such as Green WBE-le.G.A.N.T.S.METATECH 4.0MUSH LINK, project NAWA, as well as collaborations through CEEPUSUSAID and other support mechanisms, have created concrete opportunities for students, academic staff, and institutional partners to collaborate across borders, producing sustainable academic and societal value.

An achievement of particular importance for this period is the equipment of "Haxhi Zeka" University“ with Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), which confirms the institutional commitment to European standards and opens sustainable paths for academic mobility and long-term projects. Also, membership in prestigious networks such as Southeastern Europe and Western Balkans Rectors' ForumBUSINET, as well as the application for full membership in European University Association (EUA), further strengthen the university's international voice and presence.

Academic mobility remains one of the most tangible pillars of this cooperation. Dozens of students and professors of “Haxhi Zeka” University have benefited from semester and mixed mobilities to partner universities in Poland, Croatia, France, Malta, the Netherlands and beyond, while over a hundred students and dozens of international professors have been part of the academic life of UHZ as students and future lecturers. This continuous exchange has enriched the academic experience, increased intercultural competences and directly impacted the quality of teaching and scientific research.

This vision constitutes the basis on which future partnerships will be built and the role of UHZ will be strengthened as a university with real impact at the local, regional and European level.
