In Appreciation of a Master of the Guitar Danijel Cerović elevated the musical experience at UHZ and in Peja

The University “Haxhi Zeka” in Peja expresses its deepest gratitude to the renowned guitarist Danijel Cerović from Montenegro, who, as part of the International Summer University UNISUM 2026, offered an evening of music of rare artistic distinction.

The concert was held on Monday, 6 July 2026, at 20:00, in the “St. Catherine” Catholic Church in Peja — a venue renowned for its exceptional acoustics and inspiring atmosphere, which was transformed into a space where the sound of the guitar took on an even deeper and more moving dimension.

Before an international audience — participants of UNISUM 2026 from various countries alongside many citizens of Peja — Professor Cerović performed a carefully curated programme. It featured the masterpiece Tombeau sur la mort de M. Comte de Logy and Sonata No. 23 “L’Infidèle” (Entrée, Courante, Sarabande, Menuet, Musette, Paysanne) by Silvius Leopold Weiss, the work Tamna noći by Žarko Mirković, as well as Kozji put by the young composer Šimun Čarli Botica. This programme, uniting the mastery of the Baroque era with contemporary creativity, was rendered with impeccable technique, profound sensitivity and a musical expression that held the audience spellbound throughout the evening.

The name of Professor Cerović has long been a byword for excellence. An internationally acclaimed recording artist, he is regularly invited to perform on prestigious stages and at festivals such as the Guitar Foundation of America Convention, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Manuel de Falla Hall in Madrid, the Koblenz International Guitar Festival, and those of Shenyang and Daejon. A graduate of the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade and holder of a master’s degree from the Conservatory in Maastricht, his presence in Peja was a true privilege for all who attended.

A special and heartfelt word of thanks belongs to Prof. Xhevdet Sahatxhija, whose role in bringing eminent performers to the University “Haxhi Zeka” is both continuous and irreplaceable.

Thanks to his tireless dedication, artistic vision and broad network of international collaborations, UHZ has become a meeting point where the most distinguished names of the world’s music scene find a warm welcome and a stage. Events such as Professor Cerović’s concert would not be possible without his constant commitment to creating these opportunities, for which the University “Haxhi Zeka” expresses its profound gratitude. Through his work, the culture of music and of performance in Peja and beyond is continually enriched and raised to ever higher levels. The evening closed with prolonged applause and sincere appreciation, leaving an unforgettable impression on all present.

Events of this kind demonstrate that music has the power to transcend borders, to bring together people from different cultures and to inspire future generations. By enriching its academic programme with cultural events of the highest quality, UHZ and UNISUM once again raised the culture of music and of performance to a level worthy of the international stage.

The University “Haxhi Zeka” extends to Professor Danijel Cerović its sincere thanks and its best wishes for continued success in his distinguished career.
