The Conference of Rectors of Public Universities of Kosovo held its regular meeting today at the premises of the “Fehmi Agani” University in Gjakova. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Assoc. Dr. Mentor Alishani, Rector of the “Ukshin Hoti” University in Prizren, who currently serves as the Chair of the Conference of Rectors.
During this working meeting, a number of issues of strategic importance that are directly related to the functioning and development of public higher education in the country were discussed. The focus of the discussions was on the joint commitments that the Rectors' Conference should undertake towards increasing the scientific and research component in public universities, as well as the need to build institutional capacities to successfully cope with the accreditation and quality assurance processes.
Special attention was paid to the issue of University Management Systems (UMS). In this context, it was emphasized that the system currently being offered to public universities has a very high financial cost and, at the same time, is not suitable for the real and current academic, administrative and developmental needs of these institutions. The Rectors emphasized that such standardized solutions, imposed from outside, do not reflect the specifics and capacities of public universities in Kosovo, underlining the necessity for the UMS component to be built, developed and adapted within each university, in a gradual, functional and financially sustainable manner.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the importance of continued cooperation between public universities through the Rectors' Conference was reaffirmed, as a key mechanism for coordinating common positions, addressing structural challenges, and advancing the role of public higher education in the scientific, economic, and social development of Kosovo.
